Where is your fav place to eat?  Let me guess…  standing up at the kitchen counter – at your desk – in your car – on the couch in front of the TV

Not too long ago I felt like meal-time was nothing more than a pain in the ass.  So busy!   Nothing wrong with slapping peanut butter on a piece of bread, fold over - voila! lunch… or dinner if no one is around.  I decided I was missing out on the meal-time experience though.  I want to share a few things I’ve got going on now - 

1. I take a lunch break outside of my office.  Even if I only have time for the half peanut butter sandwich, I take it outside on the porch or sit down at the table.  The mental break means more than the actual meal.

2.  I stopped eating meals in my car.  Messy, unfocused and dangerous.  Shoving fast food in your face while driving with your knees… I’m actually very skilled at this, but decided it was disgusting.  Harry Douglas, Car Concerns syndicated radio show says his mission is to shut down every drive-thru window in the nation… he says “if you can’t get your fat ass out of the car to go in and eat your 1000 calorie meal, you shouldn’t have driving priviledges” – he said it, not me… although I wish I had.

3.  Make meal-time an experience.  For every meal (except breakfast because I’m half asleep) I put on music and light candles and sit down.  I enjoy everything on my plate.  I take my time – 20 minutes on the timer – and get satisfied.

Are you rolling your eyes?  Think about this – can’t remember who said it but “life is little experiences strung together” – why not enjoy it all?

Today’s Action Item:

Sit down at the table and spend 20 minutes eating a meal.  Doesn’t matter what you eat as long as you enjoy it!  Think of it as an afternoon delight… ok, it’s just lunch but still…
