When I was younger, and totally past my 9 year awkward phase, I had like a million different boyfriends. I ‘loved’ every single one of them! I would ask my mom ‘how do you know when you’re in love?’ and she would always say ‘when you know, you know’. I always hated that answer!!! That is until I met my husband, Mike. We’re coming up on 12 years in November and much like my parents, we eloped after 2 months.
So all these years, I just figured ‘when you know, you know’ applied to somebody’s love life. Then I had one of those ‘6th Sense’ moments where I looked around and realized it’s about EVERYTHING in your life. ‘When you know, you know’ is about listening to your heart in everything you do… your friendships, your career, your self-image, and the big dreams you have for your life!
I think back to my mid-twenties and wanting to be in love so much that I forced it. Not just with a boyfriend, but with my life. I totally hated my job, settled with my day-to-day, and trudged along at what I thought I was supposed to do and who I thought I was supposed to be.
So fast forward to now… although it looks like the things I’m doing don’t make sense to some – hopping a plane to pitch a big project to a major corporation with a woman I just met 2 weeks ago over the phone, as most recent – in my HEART it’s right.
So I’m starting to notice a big shift in my life… with the ‘when you know, you know’. I’m taking big leaps AND I’m not afraid to let the other stuff go. If you want to know how you really feel about something, just ask yourself. Make a list of the things you do and the things you plan to do and finally the things you want to do. No one else is going to see the list so GET HONEST. We obligate ourselves with so much stuff that we’re not really in love with – all those things can go to make room for true love!
I know, ‘whoa’, right?! I’ll leave you alone now with all this… just know there’s got to be truth to listening to your heart. How else could Tom & Sharon elope after knowing each other for 6 weeks and still be married – hey, they were my roommates for 18 years, I think I know!
So you don’t have to go it alone, I found an awesome book and community to help you out with your LIFE LIST. Watch the video to learn more about it.
