Quit picking, you’ll only make it worse.
Argh! Weeks ago I found myself staring into a magnifying mirror while staying at a big fancy hotel in Las Vegas. I went crazy picking a tiny imperfection. I absolutely could not stop. The more I picked, the worse it got… soooo, the more I picked. Now I’m walking around with a band-aid on my face (too difficult to drive with the bag on my head I want to wear). I’m kicking myself because I know better.
Here’s the typical scenario:
Me locking myself in the bathroom.
Husband knocking: What are you doing in there? Are you picking?
Me: Of course not! I know better!
Husband still knocking: You know you’ll only make it worse.
Me: Move along!!!!!!
Husband when I unlock the door: Wow… your face looks… angry.
Me: Sigh… I’m hideous now… maybe I can heal it with my mind…
Here’s the point…
and the point is bigger than any imperfection on your face. It’s about EVERYTHING in your life. If you are hell bent on picking the one imperfection in your life, you’re going to make it worse. Back up and look in the big, regular mirror so you can see EVERYTHING… I know, lookin’ good.
Today’s Action Item:
When you get into the ‘pick it apart’ mode, write down 5 things that totally rock right now – seriously focus on those until the impulse goes away.
