Take more breaks – Get more done!

I invented something awesome.  It’s all hush hush for now…
So how did I come up with this mystery product?  Focus. That’s what I’m talking about today.  Giving full attention to the important thing you are doing NOW. I just learned from my friend Noah St. John (#1 best-selling author of The Secret Code of Success) that we only have the ability to fully focus on one thing for a 60 minute time limit… and that’s pushing it.

My mind drifts alot – fantasies of tropical vacations, mixed with what am I going to wear now that I’ve given most of my clothes away, to who sang ‘I Wanna Sex You Up’. I know, I know, I talk about multi-tasking all the time – the things I multi-task don’t require any sort of brain power or personalized attention though. I would never watch TV while making love or eat dinner while cleaning the bathtub… not sure if those are the right visuals but it is what it is. This focus thing matters for everything – your projects, your kids, your workout, your love life and more. So how can you keep the focus love alive?  Take little breaks every hour – like these:

Quick walk outside
Even if it’s just to check the mail, get outside, get away from your desk, leave your phone behind and clear your head.
Organize a drawer
Enjoy something mindless and feel successful in just 5 minutes.  Fully completing a small task can bring renewed focus to a long drawn-out project.
Move
Do a quick exercise from 60 Second Circuits and get your blood flowing.  You can do a quick circuit in less than 5 minutes right in your home office or living room – you won’t get sweaty and you will feel energized. Check out something I do to refocus… I must really LOVE what I do to share this one.

THIS WEEKS ACTION ITEM:

Try taking a 5 minute break each hour today.  Keep a log of how much more you get done!

    Hi Susie,

That was hysterical. I love that you are lead singer for the band. I also love the advice and will share it with my teens. I think they need to know when they are studying that a 5 minute break every hour is a good thing.

That’s some great advice there! Thanks for sharing!
